Description
Springtime and flowers are signs of rejuvenation. This year was no exception, and I took a couple of trips to a garden nursery. I photographed this Rose of Sharon-Bluebird-Hibiscus at a local greenhouse. It was in full bloom, although it usually blossoms in late summer. Its beauty challenged me to attempt to paint it. Its dark throat and violet color required a different choice of paints colors than I usually use. The flower is a mixture of ultramarine red-violet, phthalo blue, quinacridone magenta, and cobalt violet. All of those paints are Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus fine watercolors.
I painted the hibiscus on Aches 140 pound cold-pressed paper.
