Description
I have always admired blue hydrangea. On a trip to Victorial, British Coloumbia I wandered throught the beautifully landscaped gradens, Each graden seemed to have larger and larger beds of multi colored hydranges. At that time, I lived in the high desert and could not grow hydrangea. Now, I moved and have several white bushes which are lovely but not a showy and the blue. Their immense flower heads and brilliant color makes them unique in a graden. They flaunt their old fashion charm and elgance. I took the reference photo for this painting at a friend’s house but soon I plan to plant some blue hydrangea of my own.
I painted this blossom using Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus Watercolors on Arches 140 lb hot pressed watercolor paper.

Bonnie, congrats on your Feature...this is truly an excellent hydrangea capture, one of my favorite flowers. We have Annabel hydrangea liberally dotting our home landscape because we don’t have enough shade to successfully accommodate my favorite Blue hydrangea in our warmer climate.
Bonnie Young replied:
Thank you. Here in Maine we don’t away get enough sunshine for Blue Hydrangea. Last summer was just right for them.

You are very talented Your paintings look like photographs. I bought a set of Hydrus Watercolors and have no idea how to use them. They don't seem to blend like traditional water colors.
Bonnie Young replied:
Thank you I’m not sure what you mean about blending. With wet on wet they travel quickly across the paper creating beautiful blends. On dry paper I blend the colors i want on my enamel pallet before painting. Maybe you need more water. Water is the magic ingredient.
