Description
This scene of clothing hanging on a line brings back many memories. I never used a clothes dryer until I went to boarding school at the age of sixteen. While growing up, Mom established Monday as wash day no matter the weather. I hung clothes out in freezing temperatures, in blustery winds, on sunny days and any other Monday. We had four parallel lines, and the underwear was always hung on one of the inner lines. Sheets, towels, and other large clothing went on the outer lines. I think Mom tried to be modest even on wash days. My Dad wore long underwear all winter but never red. I remember that he declared red underwear off-limits. The best thing about line-dried clothing was the sweet smell of freshness from the clean Nebraska air.
I painted this scene on Arches 140 lb. Cold-Pressed watercolor paper with Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus Watercolors and Daniel Smith watercolor paints.

I love this wonderful rural painting Bonnie! It brings back memories of summers in Kansas when I was a child! The honey suckle vines along our fence in the back yard! L/F
