Description
Beaker is a wonderful, energetic dog. After nearly ten years he is beginning to slow down enough to be photographed. I wanted to paint him many times, but my attempted reference photos have always been a blur, a tail end, or a distant image. A couple of weeks ago he came to be petted and stayed still long enough for me to catch him looking up at me with his big beautiful brown eyes. I had to paint him.
Beaker was a rejected puppy that was returned in Oklamona and shipped to Colorado. Our son’s family adopted him. He is part terrier and part miniature schnauzer. He can jump and almost fly if he wanted to catch squirrels, rats, or other creatures. Chickens and duck do not interest him at all. This fall one of the small pigs on Olde Haven Farm went into the house yard when Beaker was outside. He grabbed the pig that was bigger than he is and tried to shake it like he does smaller animals. The pig had to be rescued. Beaker’s manners are still rough, and he does not seem to care unless he wants to be petted. He still has to be reminded to sit. But he is loved and returns that love in many ways.
I painted Beaker with Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus Watercolor and ink on 140 lbs Arches Watercolor paper.

Sweet work of this not so angelic doggie! I also have a Schnauzer mix dog and she loves to shake her toys "to death"! My Josie just turned 11 years old and is still very puppy-like!

Thank you, Your story on your own dog brought a smile. It sounds like Josie and Beaker have some of the same traits.
