Artist's Description
Monday, I spent the day at Olde Haven Farm. At lunchtime, I went into the house to eat and warm-up. I planned to sit awhile, but as I let the dogs out, a flock of small birds came and danced along the branches of an old bush just outside the large kitchen windows. One little bird seemed as fascinated with me as I was him. He looked like a patron at the zoo. First, he turned to the left to look, then face on, and then to the right. He repeated his turning and peering. What at a switch. I was the zoo animal in the cage. He was free.
Later, I searched the internet to find out what kind of bird he was. I found an article that said he was a common house sparrow. I did think he was common. I loved the beauty of his feathers, so I felt compelled to paint him. There is nothing common about a tiny bird when the Bible says not one sparrow falls to the ground without God knowing. About Bonnie Young
Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. For her, painting is an artistic articulation of life captured in watercolor or digital creations. Watercolor allows her to build depth and detail through layering glazes. While still attending elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in the Nebraska Sandhills, she began painting. For most of her adult life, she lived in the midwest and west. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Janet Nunn, an award...

Lovely work and sweet story to go along with the painting. I raised a "common" House Sparrow from a featherless hatchling to full adult. She had deformed legs and would not have been able to survive on her own. I had her for six years before she passed. She thought I was her mom!
Bonnie Young replied:
Thank you. You must have great patience to raise a hatchling. They are so fragile.
