When we moved to Maine, our property had old rose bushes by the dozens. I had high hopes that they could be pruned and then would produce the gorgeous aromatic roses of a century ago but they seemed to be small wild roses more brambles than blossoms. I dream of roses that are easy to care for, and that grow in spite of insects, blight, and mold. I love roses but not their thorns and the maintenance necessary for them to produce. I say to myself, dream on.

Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. For her, painting is an artistic articulation of life captured in watercolor or digital creations. Watercolor allows her to build depth and detail through layering glazes.
