Artist's Description
How often have you watched a person sit down in a rocking chair, and a child runs to be scooped and held? A rocking chair invites opportunities for nurturing, teaching, cuddling, and maybe even sleep. I remember in my childhood, every living room had a rocking chair, and every person in that chair had a child on their lap. My rocking chair is hidden in a bedroom on my second floor and has not been used much for nearly twenty years. My community does not have young children or rocking chairs.
Perhaps I should begin to use my rocking chair. There are therapeutic benefits. It improves emotional well-being, enhances balance, provides relaxation, relieves arthritis pain, and improves blood circulation. So, what opportunities am I/are we missing by not rocking?
About Bonnie Young
Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. For her, painting is an artistic articulation of life captured in watercolor or digital creations. Watercolor allows her to build depth and detail through layering glazes. While still attending elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in the Nebraska Sandhills, she began painting. For most of her adult life, she lived in the midwest and west. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado.
