Last fall we took a day trip north to Baxter State Park, while there, we drove about an hour up Mount Katahdin. The purpose of our trip was to take photos of the autumn foliage. The colors were amazing shades of reds, oranges, golds, purples, and greens. The entire base of the mountain radiated brilliant color. The trees were clothed in their most flamboyant attire as if each one was trying to outdo the others.
In contrast, Katahdin looked like a slumbering giant in the background,
Previously living in the midwest did not provide the opportunity for actually experiencing this type of fall foliage. After moving to Maine five years ago, I have slowly grown accustomed to the reality of the fall landscapes.

Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. For her, painting is an artistic articulation of life captured in watercolor or digital creations. Watercolor allows her to build depth and detail through layering glazes. While still attending elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in the Nebraska Sandhills, she began painting. For most of her adult life, she lived in the midwest and west. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado.
