Artist's Description
When I start longing for spring, I paint flowers. Iris are one of my favorite spring bloomers. I took this reference photo last spring in my neighborhood. When I was deciding what to write about this painting, I read that Iris were named after the Greek goddess who rode rainbows, but I like them because they are easy to grow, hardy, and beautiful.
I painted on 140 lb Arches Hot Pressed Satan Grain watercolor paper and used Dr. Ph Martin Hydrus Watercolor.
About Bonnie Young
Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Janet Nunn, an award...

Bonnie, your iris watercolour is simply STUNNING in its flirting unfolding! Iris is my favorite flower and I’ve often commented if I could be a flower it would be an iris for its elegant form which APPEARS to be open but well conceals it’s ESSENCE. Thank you for this glimpse of Beauty. L/f

Thank you, Laurel
