Artist's Description
Indigo blueberry cherry tomatoes are a small late summer fruit. As they ripen, they slowly transform from green to a deep red then become a deep indigo purple. The fruit grows in large elongated clusters. They are rich in anthocyanin, naturally occurring antioxidants.
I took my reference photos for this painting at the end of the growing season last fall. Olde Haven Farm had these growing in one of their hoop houses. During the late summer and fall, these tomatoes were among their best sellers. People at both farmers’ markets searched Olde Haven Farm’s produce for this fancy little sweet fruit.
I painted this view on Arches 140 lb. Cold-Pressed watercolor paper with Daniel Smith watercolor paints, Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus Watercolors.

About Bonnie Young
Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. For her, painting is an artistic articulation of life captured in watercolor or digital creations. Watercolor allows her to build depth and detail through layering glazes. While still attending elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in the Nebraska Sandhills, she began painting. For most of her adult life, she lived in the midwest and west. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Janet Nunn, an award...
