Artist's Description
Hemlock Bridge is the last of the three bridges we visited earlier this spring with two of our grandchildren. We traveled down a gravel road named Frog Alley to arrive at this bridge. Near the entrance to the road is a huge boulder painted green to represent a frog. Frog Alley road winds along a low plain beside an old channel of the Saco River for one-and-a-half miles. The bridge was built in 1857 and reinforced in 1988 to carry local traffic. It was designated as a Maine Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2002. It looked like an excellent place for frog hunting, fly fishing, and mosquitoes.
About Bonnie Young
Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Janet Nunn, an award...
