Description
When we moved to Maine, I left an English garden backyard that I had worked on for thirty years and acquired an almost barren yard. Our son decided I needed to begin developing another yard of flowers. He gave me seventy daffodil bulbs and over one hundred tulips one fall. The grandkids helped me plant the bulbs by taking turns running the drill to dig all those holes. That year the squirrels feasted. Unfortunately, very few bulbs were there to bloom the following spring. However, he did not give up. I received several more plant gifts. Finally, two years ago, I had a few daffodils survive and show their sunny faces.
I took my reference photo for this painting in May of 2020. The bright daffodils were the essential medicine I needed for that pandemic spring.
