Artist's Description
Amaryllis plants are a bright spot in the gray months of winter. Our house here in Maine has a perfect room to store them during their six weeks of cool, dark, dormant time each fall. This year the white amaryllis bloomed shortly after Christmas with two large blossoms, but the red one waited to bloom in late January and early February. The red one produced four huge flowers. In this painting, only three of the flowers are open. The last flower opened this week, but the other three are beginning to fade.
I tried 140 pounds Hahnemuhle cotton paper for the first time and found it enabled my painting process.

Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. For her, painting is an artistic articulation of life captured in watercolor or digital creations. Watercolor allows her to build depth and detail through layering glazes.
