I painted this mushroom because of its striking coloration. This gorgeous mushroom is native to the Northern Hemisphere and usually found around pines or birch trees. It is poisonous to dogs and people. It can cause weakness, an altered mental state, dizziness, hallucinations and in some cases coma. Folklore says that soaking pieces of this species in water and setting that liquid out attracts and kills flies. I found it for sale on eBay and several other sites in powder and dried form. I cannot envision using it around a home or animals, so I do not understand why it is sold. The mushroom is beautiful but dangerous.
I painted this field scene on Arches 140 lb. Cold-Pressed watercolor paper with Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus Watercolors and a few ink details.

She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Janet Nunn, an award...
