Artist's Description
The brilliant yellows of sunflowers brighten the spirit. For me, I reminisce. It reminds me of my childhood; gathering a bouquet for Mom, getting the cows at evening milking time, observing the ants and bees partake of the flower’s nectar, and watching the floret faces turn to the sun. It is a reminder of driving across western Nebraska and central Kansas with miles and miles of sunflowers lining the highways and in Colorado, seeing acres of fields planted for commercial sales. However, I took my reference photo for this flower in a Maine farmer’s yard.
The sunflower is a symbol of warmth, strength, happiness, and good luck.
I painted this sunflower with Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus watercolor paints and white ink on 300 lbs Cold Pressed watercolor paper. Sold
About Bonnie Young
Bonnie Young connects to rural life and landscape because they reflect her roots. She discovered the love of painting the light and shadows and their effects on her subjects as she studied nature. She studied art at Kansas State University, the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Janet Nunn, an award...
